Saturday - home but Rome again soon - SVD

It was great yesterday to have my first meeting with the SVD – ‘Society of the Divine Word’ in English – but the word order of course changes for different languages. In one country they’re known as the ‘Verdis’ so i’m sure they won’t mind me referring to them in this way.

I enjoyed meeting Father [...]

Wednesday - back in Verona

It is not without a note of sadness that i leave the  Combonis in Rome. The hospitality, including the food, has been marvellous – even a lift to the Metro this morning after Mass.

Yesterday i visited the Pantheon – in sunshine! Then more chats over meals. One person i wish to visit again in England [...]

Tuesday – tourist?

Yesterday finished with an interesting discussion about veryeasySpanish – one day soon i hope to offload South and Central America’s ‘easyBibles’.

Also discussed the needs of help with a minority language in Ethiopia.

Today is my last full day in Rome. Weather permitting i might visit some sights – but remain open to other possibilities.

My trip to [...]

Monday breakfast - Spanish, Yao and Lingala

Hi – it’s just after breakfast here and i’ve found 3 new friends :

Late yesterday i met a Fr from Equador with no English and poor French. We had a very amusing conversation in French about easySpanish – i showed him my booklet from Guatamala and Peru. He’s keen to do more. I hope to [...]

Sunday - latest!

Thanks for praying for Africa today. Positive conversations today with Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Mozambique, Ethiopia, Central African Republic.

The  Uganda team seems well established and i may well visit Kampala in July or August to help Fr John Fraser and Fr Patrick Benywanira set up Fr Albert’s suggested ideas with Makerere University. Kenya are watching closely [...]

Very friendly and useful contacts in Rome

Father Superior Juan Climent from Spain was immediately very helpful – i now have a key to the rear entrance near to the Metro station and have purchased a 7 day ticket for the Metro and all central transport. Fr Juan has also suuggested i contact a mission called Divine Word Missionaries who have 6000 missionaries. In [...]

Kenya and Mozambique - a quieter day

Thursday was a quieter day – except for Fr Albert’s wonderful thoughts about Makerere University and Fr Mario who kindly improved his veryeasyItalian still further. I had hoped to hear from other Fathers about Kenya and Mozambique – but i must learn patience and ‘the Spirit blows where He wills – like the wind’ – [...]
